Easter 2013

easter snuck up so quickly this year didn't it?! i think it was even more sneaky around here because of the worst stomach flu in the history of the easterhauses.  finn and rowan were both hit the week before easter, but finn took a much worse beating.  he so desperately wanted to participate in all the fun things.  the only movement he showed the whole week was hunting eggs easter morning and slowly wandering through the egg hunt we went to.

some students stopped in the night before easter to watch the passion of the christ downstairs.  before they headed down though they hid eggs all over the house.  we're still finding them!

i googled an egg hunt a couple of days before, and found this one at a huge lutheran church.  it was a winner! there was an awesome children's comedian before the hunt.

so sick, but still so happy.

i had big plans to make this layer cake for the boys for easter, but when i added the second layer the ENTIRE cake fell into a big gooey mush pile.  after staring at it for a bit....i scooped it into teacups.

bunny cinnamon rolls

jack took my picture :)

karen had a bunch of students over for easter and they all brought food and had a big feast and played highly competitive bocce ball.  i was surprised when they let jack on jon's team, and even more surprised when jack beat all of them and won.  hilarious.

big boys, little hoop, lots of fun

as it got later, we snuck away with just our family to have a little campfire and drink rootbeer.

the boys kept talking about what a great day it was.  they love to hang out with our students.  i thought the day might just pass quietly.  i didn't plan a meal or decorate much or invite anyone over or hype it up.  a couple of days before easter, no one could even tell me why we celebrated it.  all i was doing was taking care of little sick people all week.  it turned out to be the best day anyway.  HE IS RISEN IN DEED!!!

QUIP O'THE DAY
my second toe is longer than my big toe.  it's the reason my ballet instructor never let me go on pointe.  it's the reason i wasn't comfortable with sandals until college, it's the reason i don't bother with pedicures.
