i LOVE having an elementary kid.
when i had three littles at home, it felt like that day would never come.
that day when we wouldn't all hang out in our jammies til the afternoon making forts and playing trains or cars and reading books snuggled in my bed because there was nothing else more pressing.
i still have those moments with the two small ones, but with the hub bub of getting to and from school and finishing homework and giving showers and baths and making dinner and practicing drums or baseball and having family time, they're far more fleeting.
hour long baths are now minute long showers.
those lingering days have turned to lingering nights with jack.
having 15 extra minutes turn into an hour just because he's so fun to hang out with.
lying in his bed with him, side by side, staring at the ceiling and chatting about friends or star wars or recess.
and reading in bed.
i love seeing the warm glow under his door.
it reminds me of reading in my bed as an elementary kid.
knowing that it won't be too long until he puts away his book, turns off his light and falls asleep.
and before we go to bed ourselves, we still always go in to check on the trio of boys in their room and kiss them and try to wake them up.
it never works.
QUIP O'THE DAY
once i accidentally put one of jon's contacts in, and it was the grossest thing i've ever done.
