Making Fun

you know, kids don't care what they play with. and to a kid, most anything is fun if you say it's a game.  my boys want to hijack anything i try to recycle.  old containers, boxes, bottles.  i go to toss them in the recycling bucket and they ask, "can i have that?"  they take their treasures and create something insanely creative no adult could ever come up with that i end up having to sneak back in the recycling a few days later ;)

the other morning, as i'm making scrambled eggs with cheese, we get to the end of the (rather large) carton, and they ask.  can i have that?  sure guys, have at it :)

paper toss.  it lasted for an hour.

they took that carton and made up a dozen different games with it and itty bits of crumpled paper (also from recycling).

if ever they start getting restless, i will often rustle up old containers or kitchen utensils and let them go nuts.  they think it's the greatest thing in the world.  we do this at bath time too.  sometimes i just dump a random assortment of things from around the house in the tub.  that's normal right?  have you tried this?  let me know if you do and how your cuties respond!
